Spiritual wellbeing

Strawberry Field is at its heart a transformational community. The Steps to Work programme welcomes young people who have been facing barriers to employment to take steps towards meaningful work. Many visitors from all over the world are welcomed here to experience something of this community, and many local people visit regularly and get involved in life at Strawberry Field.

The Salvation Army, as a Christian church, puts faith into action. We want to make a difference and help people’s lives to change for the better, believing that even the smallest acts can have the biggest impact. Investing in the vision of Strawberry Field was a bold step. We knew that God’s hand was and is upon the site, and going back to the time when John Lennon would play here as a child, we could see how special the site is. We recognised the opportunities to bring together this bold and creative plan to welcome young people needing support and also the thousands of visitors who come to the gates every year.

“The plan to open Strawberry Field to the public for the first time - so people can see a unique exhibition about the home, how and why the song was written by John, and allow visitors to explore the grounds as John did as a child - is very exciting.”
