Learning Hub x LJMU partnership delivers sustainability

19th April, 2024

LJMU student intern takes a lead on improving sustainability through Strawberry Field's Learning Hub.

In partnership with local education providers, the Learning Hub provides meaningful placements for students from a wide range of studies by offering the opportunity to experience working life within a fast-paced third sector environment. One of the Learning Hub’s recent students, Eilis Chadwick, came to Strawberry Field in February 2024 as part of the Liverpool John Moores University Discovery Internship Programme, and played a key part in helping us to reach our sustainable tourism aims.

Eilis, who is currently in the 2nd year of a Geography BSc at LJMU, was tasked with producing a Sustainability Policy to highlight the work the Strawberry Field team are doing to achieve the centre’s sustainability targets, in an informative and engaging way. Eilis also worked with key members of the team to compile the necessary information to apply for a Green Tourism accreditation.

The internship was a great success and you can now view Strawberry Field’s first Sustainability Policy on our website. The application to Green Tourism was also successful and Strawberry Field was delighted to have been recognised with a Silver Accreditation

The team were impressed by Eilis’ commitment to the project and her ability to compile and analyse the required information in an efficient, detailed and conscientious manner. We are very grateful to Eilis for all her hard work and we look forward to continuing our partnership with LJMU and welcoming another Discovery Intern in the near future.

“The plan to open Strawberry Field to the public for the first time - so people can see a unique exhibition about the home, how and why the song was written by John, and allow visitors to explore the grounds as John did as a child - is very exciting.”
