Strawberry Field to celebrate Christmas with a festive concert at St George’s Hall

13th October, 2023

The Salvation Army’s Strawberry Field will bring its annual Christmas carol concert to St George’s Hall this November in partnership with one of Liverpool’s most esteemed heritage trusts, St George’s Hall Charitable Trust.

‘Celebrating Christmas’ will take place on November 26 at 4pm, and will feature music from the Liverpool Walton Salvation Army Band. It will also include music from singer Asa Murphy and Britain’s Got Talent semi finalist Charlie Green, as well as Liverpool Lighthouse choir, while the evening will be compered by BBC Radio Merseyside’s Paul Beesley. The concert will also feature a host of special guests and readings that celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.

All proceeds from the concert will go towards both charities’ projects. It will help to keep the ‘gates open for good’ at Strawberry Field, supporting trainees on the Steps at Strawberry Field programmes and helping the wider community. Providing employment skills, work experience, and opportunities to volunteer, Steps at Strawberry Field empowers people across Liverpool who have learning difficulties or other barriers to employment and helps them to achieve their goals.

The St George’s Hall Charitable Trust is an independent board of members, dedicating their own time to securing the preservation, protection, development and improvement of the Grade I listed building for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Liverpool City Region and the nation at large. Within the trust there are smaller subgroups, each responsible for championing a number of key strategic aims including education, community outreach, infrastructure and digital heritage.

Major Allister Versfeld, mission development officer at Strawberry Field, said:

“Christmas is a wonderful time of year and, for many, begins when they hear a Salvation Army brass band playing. This year, I am delighted to be celebrating Christmas with a concert of songs and readings at the awe-inspiring and beautiful St George’s Hall. I am looking forward to celebrating the festive season with all our guests, trainees and the local community.”

“The plan to open Strawberry Field to the public for the first time - so people can see a unique exhibition about the home, how and why the song was written by John, and allow visitors to explore the grounds as John did as a child - is very exciting.”
